Overview:

Quinnipiac University's School of Medicine is seeking an Assistant Clerkship Director in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Assistant Clerkship Director is responsible for collaborating with the Obstetrics & Gynecology Clerkship Director to oversee the educational experiences within the Obstetrics & Gynecology clerkship extending across multiple practice sites, and work collaboratively to promote vertical curricular integration across the four years of the Netter curriculum, and horizontal curricular integration across the third-year clerkships.

This is part-time .20 FTE position and is non-benefit eligible offering an anticipated pay range of $40,000.

Curriculum Design and Implementation

  • Creation and implementation of a curriculum consistent with specialty specific national guidelines with defined the learning objectives, approved by the CCO, mapped to assessments and the Netter Medical Educational Program Objectives for the Critical Care curriculum for fourth year medical students.
  • Participate in teaching medical students and recruiting faculty members to teach in your specialty.
  • Identify and recruit faculty to provide clinical supervision, education, and advising.

Learning Environment Stewardship

  • Ensure that all clinical education occurs in a positive educational learning environment where students and faculty interact in a professional, ethical, safe and respectful environment climate. Report any learning environment concerns to the Senior Associate Dean for Education, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, and the Council on Curriculum Oversight's (CCO) Learning Environment Subcommittee.
  • Maintain active communication with lead clinicians at all clinical sites. Schedule regular visits to those sites and faculty development sessions to ensure that learning experiences, teaching quality, supervision, learning climate, facilities, and assessment are appropriate and comparable for students across all sites.
  • Ensure faculty at all sites are familiar with the clerkship learning objectives, the Netter Educational Program Objectives, and the clerkship assessment tools. Organize and lead quarterly meetings with site directors at affiliated hospitals to ensure uniformity of clinical experiences and student evaluation across sites.
  • Contribute to the educational development of the clinical faculty in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Faculty Development. Provide recommendations for further faculty development based on the needs of the clinical faculty in their discipline.

Assessment and Grading

  • Ensure that mid-clerkship formative assessments occur for all students on your clerkship including providing aggregate feedback or identifying the site-specific faculty member to provide aggregate feedback and monitoring students' completion of clerkship requirements. Evaluate the quality of mid-clerkship formative assessment, ensuring its usefulness and comparability for students across all sites.
  • Collaborate with Senior Director for Accreditation, Measurement and Educational Scholarship on selection of assessment methods and design of grading rubrics, and implement these tools once approved by the CCO.
  • Ensure timely completion of final grades for each student, including writing a summative narrative statement.

Learner Support

  • Identify students with academic difficulty in a timely manner and bring them to the attention of the Associate Dean of Student Affairs at both mid-cycle and at time of final evaluation. Provide additional academic support to struggling or remediating students.

Program Evaluation

  • Monitor clerkship performance metrics including learning outcomes, Graduation Questionnaire data, learning environment quality, comparability of sites, completion of required elements, work hours, and learner satisfaction.
  • Engage in program evaluation using a continuous quality educational process and prepare an annual report with your Action Plan for presentation to the Curriculum Evaluation Committee.

Accreditation

  • Assure program compliance with LCME accreditation standards and provide necessary documents and information in support of LCME accreditation visits.

Student Advising

  • Provide career advising and support to medical students interested in your specialty.
  • Serve as a faculty lead for residency application advising in your specialty.

Committee and Professional Organization Membership

  • Serve on the Netter SOM Clerkship Curriculum Committee and rotate onto other education committees, including the Committee on Curriculum Oversight.

Leadership and Management

  • Serve as an educational leader and manager demonstrating effective engagement in the SOM educational system.
  • Escalate concerns to the Obstetrics & Gynecology Clerkship Director, Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum or Senior Associate Dean for Education.
  • Communicate effectively and design and engage in effective workflows with the Clerkship Coordinator.

Scholarship

  • Engage in educational scholarship, including publishing in medical education literature and presenting at regional and national meetings.
Education Requirements:
  • MD or DO required
  • Successful completion of OB/GYN residency training and board certification in obstetrics and gynecology required
Qualifications:
  • 5-7 years of related experience in medical education
  • Prior experience working and teaching medical students or residents in an academic health care setting
  • Strong work ethic and high level of energy, flexibility, initiative, and creativity
  • Organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships
