Position Summary

This position reports to the Dean of Learning Outcomes, Curriculum and Program Development. The primary function of this position is to provide full-time and adjunct faculty support and direction focused on teaching innovations and faculty development across all stages of their careers. The Assistant Dean facilitates faculty's professional development with a focus on innovative course delivery and pedagogies that enhance academic achievement, especially for underrepresented populations. Key areas include High-Impact Practices (HIPs) such as learning communities, Competency-Based Education (CBE), undergraduate research, emerging educational technologies, and aligning teaching practices with student learning outcomes to improve transfer success and job placement. Additional responsibilities include overseeing compliance and quality assurance for online and flexible learning courses, collaborating with instructional deans to ensure that faculty-student interaction, academic rigor, and accreditation requirements for online programs are consistent with in-person offerings. The Assistant Dean also provides oversight and management of the college's Learning Management System (LMS) and ensures all online materials are accessible.

Responsibilities

Provide guidance and supervision to the Instructional Designer/Technologist, Senior Assessment Coordinator, and Senior Instructional Technology and Media Analyst.

Provide leadership for reviewing and implementing new instructional technologies and effective strategies for online, hybrid and other flexible learning modalities.

Assist in coordinating faculty training and professional development related to flexible delivery modalities.

Coordinate online pedagogy and technology projects targeted to improve the effectiveness of online instruction, engagement, retention, and success.

Implement effective strategies to determine professional development needs, changes in teaching and learning skills, and the impact of teaching and learning activities on student outcomes.

Follow national trends, state and federal regulations and accreditation standards to ensure compliance.

Work with appropriate faculty, staff, and administrators to develop guidelines, mentoring and additional supports, especially for new faculty.

Function as the college representative to the Illinois Community College Online consortium and serve on college committees and statewide organizations as appropriate.

Serve as the college liaison to the MSARA (Midwest State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement) consortium for distance learning authorization.

Manage vendor relationships for instructional technologies and online learning (i.e.; Canvas, Kaltura, Quality Matters (QM), Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) etc.)

Collaborate with Waubonsee's Digital Services Coordinator in providing faculty development in the use of Open Educational Resources.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in related field required. Formal training in Educational/Instructional Technology and/or Instructional Design preferred.

Three years of experience in higher education, specifically in faculty development, instructional design, or curriculum development, with at least two years of experience in a college-level distance learning program required.

Two years supervisory or project management experience required.

An understanding of best practices in online teaching and learning design required.

Experience with conducting or leading assessment of student learning.

Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) required.

Experience with educational technology tools and platforms.

Experience with maintaining accessibility requirements, such as ADA Section 508, universal design strategies in online learning required.

Excellent communication, project management, conceptual, and analytical skills.
