We are looking for an Assistant Plant Manager to help lead our Growing Media operations in Lebanon, CT. Growing Media Operations, a network of 40+ soil manufacturing plants across North America, produce branded consumer products such as mulch and soil for lawn and garden care. Career Progression:

This role is designed as a stepping stone to the Plant Manager position, offering ample opportunities for growth within the company. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to lead larger teams, manage more complex projects, and take on increased responsibilities as they demonstrate their capabilities.

In this role you will:

  • Supervise a workforce of 75 - 80 hourly full-time, and up to 50 seasonal and temporary associates in a multi shift operation, performing activities in one or more of the following areas: production, equipment maintenance, building and grounds maintenance, warehouse, distribution, and/or field operations.
  • Assign work and monitor progress, orient and train associates, interview and recommend hiring of applicants, evaluate associate work performance, counsel associates and/or implement disciplinary action, and establish workforce schedules.
  • Assist other Supervisors and/or Plant Manager in directing the overall operation of the plant, performing special projects as needed.
  • Assist in the management of plant resources, including materials, equipment, and labor.
  • Monitor inventory levels, coordinate with procurement teams, and ensure timely availability of materials.
  • Ensuring quality and quantity standards are achieved in a cost effective and problem solving quickly when things do not go according to plan.
  • Support the Plant Manager in budget management and cost control efforts
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging team members to identify problems proactively while working with the Plant Manager to implement changes.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop plant staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to monitor production metrics and make informed decisions.
  • Execute and enforce government, company and/or plant laws, procedures, and/or policies.
  • Communicate, implement and monitor company provided safety programs and procedures.
  • Get your hands dirty by operating equipment side-by-side with your workforce.
  • Plant productivity, including involvement in goal setting for the plant, and execution of plant production goals.

The perfect person will have:
  • B.S. degree (highly preferred) or directly related experience preferred.
  • 2-5 years overall manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in a supervisory role, specifically experience in associate development and safety.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Experience in one or more of the following functional areas is required: manufacturing, distribution, raw materials purchasing, inventory planning controls management, sales, customer service, and/or facility financials.
  • Must be able to effectively multi-task, problem solve in a fast paced environment and the ability to manage, motivate and train others to achieve required goals.

Some other nice features to have's:
  • Working knowledge of all facets of manufacturing including continuous improvement, team building, safety, associate relations, quality, and customer service.
  • Proficient in using manufacturing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to be bilingual in Spanish/English is preferred.

The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $80,200.00 - $94,300.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
