The Department of History & American Indian Studies at the University of North Dakota invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of American Indian Studies to begin in August 2025. We seek a colleague who will continue our department's commitments to teaching excellence, furthering scholarship on Indigenous peoples of the Northern Great Plains, and strengthen and build new strategic partnerships with tribal communities in our region.

The successful candidate will teach five three-credit courses in American Indian Studies (AIS) and a one-credit Humanities Seminar per year. The offerings will be a combination of in-person on-campus and asynchronous online courses. Desirable teaching areas include introductory AIS courses; an interdisciplinary Humanities Seminar; tribal histories of the Northern Great Plains; and Preserving Tribal Heritage. The successful candidate also will maintain an active research agenda and participate in shared faculty governance and service. • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to teach, inspire, and
  mentor students.
• Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability and willingness to collaborate effectively
  with faculty, staff, and students.
• Ability and willingness to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within
  and outside the Department of History & American Indian Studies.
• Ability and willingness to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery.

• Ph.D. in academic field related to American Indian Studies by August 15, 2025.
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

• Experience or potential in teaching in-person and asynchronous online courses in
  American Indian Studies or an allied field.
• Experience or potential in archival studies, digital humanities, cultural resource
  management, and/or public history.
• Experience or potential engaging with tribal communities, such as language revitalization
  and/or public humanities.
• A research agenda that includes and anticipates professional presentations and
  publications in peer-reviewed outlets related to Indigenous populations of the Northern Great Plains.
