Description:
The Department of Psychology at Tulane University announces a tenure track position at the beginning Assistant Professor level in developmental science with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. The ideal candidate will have a strong research orientation with the potential to develop a nationally visible, extramurally supported program of research. We are especially interested in scholars who conduct basic research in developmental science that emphasizes mechanisms of change over time. We welcome applications from researchers studying infants, children, and/or adolescents within all subfields of developmental science, including developmental cognitive neuroscience and developmental affective neuroscience. We will prioritize applications from candidates whose research interests can complement and bridge the current strengths of our faculty in cognitive and social development (e.g., attention, emotion, identity development, learning/memory, social reasoning, stress/vulnerability, resilience). Experience with diverse and cutting-edge methodologies in developmental science will also be prioritized, especially as the University is launching new initiatives around data science (https://tulanedatahub.com). The Tulane Brain Institute currently maintains shared fNIRS equipment and the University has recently opened a new 3T MRI scanner facility that includes an in-house mock scanner and infant/child playroom. Tulane is also a strong supporter of cross-disciplinary research. Collaborations are possible with faculty outside the Department and many of our faculty are active members of interdisciplinary programs across the University (https://tulane.edu/research/centers-and-institutes), including the Tulane Brain Institute (http://brain.tulane.edu), the Africana Studies program (https://liberalarts.tulane.edu/programs/africana-studies), and the Violence Prevention Institutehttps://violenceprevention.tulane.edu/). Ability to interface with other departments and programs across the University would be considered a plus.  Faculty in the Psychology Department are also expected to mentor PhD student research, as well as offer courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The Department of Psychology (http://sse.tulane.edu/psyc) comprises three graduate training areas, including Brain, Cognition and Developmental Sciences, Social Psychology, and School Psychology. The ideal candidate for this position will enhance Departmental or University Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives (https://tulane.edu/racial-equity/strategy-for-tomorrow) through their research and/or teaching.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in psychology, neuroscience, or related discipline. Successful applicants will have 1) postdoctoral training experience or similar experience demonstrating an ability to conduct independent research, 2) a record of consistent and recent publications, 3) evidence of potential to secure external funding, 4) demonstrated ability to teach courses and supervise student research, and 5) evidence of potential to provide service to the Department and University and contribute to the Department's EDI climate.
Application Instructions:
Review of applications will begin on November 20, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled. Please upload a letter of application, CV, research and teaching statements, an equity, diversity, and inclusion statement, and three relevant reprints.  In addition, please ask three referees to upload confidential letters of reference directly to Interfolio.
