Job Description:


The School of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering (SSIE) within the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University is seeking two (2) tenured/tenure-track faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor. The positions will begin in Spring or Fall 2025 (2025-2026 academic year).


Position Focus Areas:


  • Health Systems OR
  • Advanced Machine Learning and Digital Health

Position Overview:


The successful candidates will be expected to establish both theoretical and applied research programs in the emerging areas of industrial and systems engineering, with teaching responsibilities spanning undergraduate to advanced graduate-level courses. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Healthcare Systems Engineering, focusing on the digitization of health systems and Industry 4.0 concepts applied to healthcare, health systems, and wellness. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, remote sensing, facial recognition, precision/personalized medicine, telemedicine/mobile health, IoT, advanced machine learning/artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and public health modeling. However, we will also consider candidates with expertise in other emerging areas of healthcare systems engineering.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Conduct high-quality research in healthcare systems or advanced machine learning
  • Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses
  • Mentor and advise undergraduate, MS, and PhD students
  • Secure external funding to support research initiatives
  • Contribute to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the university and the field
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations within SSIE and across the university

About the School of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering:


The Watson College's SSIE is a leader in both research and education, generating $8.5-12 million annually in research funding from 2020-2024. Our faculty collaborate with over 30 sponsors from industry and federal agencies. SSIE is internationally recognized in areas such as electronics manufacturing, packaging, flexible electronics, and health systems. We have ongoing collaborations with major healthcare organizations across the U.S. and abroad.


Our school has 36 faculty members and offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in Systems Science (SS), Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), and Healthcare Systems Engineering (HSE). Additionally, we offer a cutting-edge executive health systems program based in Manhattan. We are rapidly expanding, and these positions are part of a broader effort to strengthen our school's capabilities and reputation.

Requirements:


The candidate must have a doctoral degree in Industrial Engineering or a closely related field. The candidate should also have good leadership skills and should have an excellent record of scholarly publications. Teaching experience is also preferred.
