Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:

The College of Science, Engineering & Technology at Texas Southern University is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Transportation Management and Planning, who is competent in instructing students with an active research agenda. The ideal candidate will possess a terminal degree (Ph.D.) with an emphasis on Transportation Management and/or Planning or Transportation Engineering from a regionally accredited university, with a supplemental field in Freight Logistic or Maritime Transportation. This is a 9-month tenure track position with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Essential Duties Summary:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Transportation Management and Planning
  • Conduct research that is presentable at professional academic conferences and acceptable for publication in refereed academic journals.
  • Active participation in departmental, school, and university committees.
  • Service to one's profession and the surrounding community.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range:

$82,373.44 - $107,085.00

Education:

Ph. D. in Transportation Management and/or Planning or Transportation Engineering from a regionally accredited university.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge in one or more of:

  • Transportation Planning, Operations and/or Policy
  • Transportation system and technology
  • Freight and logistic
  • Maritime Transportation
  • Proficiency in current software and applications in Transportation Management and Planning
  • Proficiency in Data Analytics, Python, R, and other programable languages

Skill in:
  • Detail oriented
  • Effective customer service
  • Problem-solving and decision-making
  • Multitasking and time management
  • Both verbal and written communication

Ability to:
  • Work with a diverse student population
  • Maintain involvement in appropriate professional organizations
Work Experience:

Active research agenda as evidenced by at least one refereed journal publication at the time of hire preferred.Receive Ph.D. degree within seven years as of January 2025, and can show competency in research and grant writing preferred.
