Sunbelt Asphalt Surfaces, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Lowboy Equipment Hauler to join our Transportation Operations team. Job Description: The ideal candidate will perform duties to drive a tractor and lowboy, tilt deck, or drop deck trailer for the purpose of transporting construction equipment machinery or materials in the safest and most expedient manner.

Experience/Skills Required:

• Basic operating knowledge of Heavy Construction Equipment
• Over one and up to three years to become familiar with the safe and proper operation of a tractor trailer with heavy and oversize loads, proper loading and securing tractor equipment or materials for safe transport and the proper use and operation of detachable and drop trailers.
• Use of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of numbers including decimals and fractions, check reports, forms, records and comparable data where interpretation is required.

Physical Activity/Demand:

• Position requires the ability to climb in and out of tractor unit, on and off of trailer and in and out of construction equipment as required.
• The position requires the ability to grasp, to push and pull levers, and to operate foot pedals. Such physical activity to operate control levers is repetitive in motion of the wrist, hands and or fingers.
• Position required ability to express or Exchange ideas by means of the spoken Word in English and the ability to perceive sounds and receive detailed information through oral communications, and to make fine discrimination in equipment noises which may indicate mechanical problems.
• Moderate physical effort required to operate the detachable gooseneck trailer.
• Use chains and binders to secure loads and place skid boards and outrigger boards to property load certain types of equipment.
• Frequently lifting or moving average weight material over 25 pounds with occasional lifting or moving heavy weight material over 60 pounds.
• Position would require the ability to lift material over 60 pounds. Position also requires the ability to push or pull binders in excess of 100 pounds of torque.
• NOTE: Federal / State laws require driver to pass a DOT physical, which does exclude some handicaps, and take and pass a NIDA Drug Screen.

Mental/Visual Demand:

Continuous mental and visual attention required to properly secure loads on the trailers and to operate the tractor trailer with oversize and overweight loads in congested areas, involving repetitive or diversified work requiring constant alertness or activity. The position requires visual acuity including color, depth perception and field or vision as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for preventing damage to equipment due to improper operation, handling or use.
• Responsible for preventing damage to material or product due to improper securing, inspection, route handling or operation of the tractor trailer unit.
• Constant care is necessary to prevent injury to others, due to inherent hazards. An accident, should it occur, would probably result in injuries of a partially incapacitating nature such as fractures, cuts and more serious injuries that may be common in an automotive accident.

Compensation: The successful candidate will earn:

• $25-$30 per hour
