Join Meta Reality Labs and be a part of our mission to create world-class consumer augmented and mixed reality experiences. As a member of the optical and display organization, you will play a crucial role in developing the critical modeling algorithms and simulation toolsets that enable the advancement and productization of waveguide combiner systems in transformative AR products. You will work closely with a team of industry-leading scientists and engineers to deliver computational solutions for accurate and fast physical simulations, high-performance optimization, and improved system integrations and high-volume manufacturing (HVM). At Meta Reality Labs, we are committed to making VR and AR pervasive and universal, and we need talented individuals like you to help us achieve our goals. If you are passionate about advancing the field of waveguide technology and want to work alongside some of the best minds in the industry, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.

Computational Optical Scientist - Waveguide Design Responsibilities:

  • Develop novel waveguide modeling algorithms to enhance the speed and accuracy of waveguide simulations, specifically for manufacturing and mass production scenarios.
  • Demonstrate computational tools for the design of waveguides in AR glasses, including modeling, simulation, optimization, and validation.
  • Lead collaborations with both internal and external teams to identify and develop computational solutions that enable high-performance, low-cost waveguide solutions for AR applications.
  • Help advance the state of the art in waveguide technology and deliver new waveguide designs to support product requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • PhD degree in photonics, optics, physics, or similar fields.
  • Proven understanding of physical optics, diffractive optics, geometric optics, and polarization optics.
  • Experience with electromagnetic modeling and analysis of light in nanoscale structures, anisotropic materials, films, or holographic elements.
  • Experience with methods of light propagation in both wave and ray domains, as well as in mixed models.
  • C++ or Python programming experience in scientific computing and algorithm development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in waveguide physics design/modeling for AR applications.
  • Experience supporting optical design for consumer products.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing and robustness design.
