Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Coordinator, International Student Services - Boca Raton, FL.

The Coordinator for International Student Services serves as a Designated School Official (DSO), sponsored student services liaison, and FL-Israel Scholarship coordinator. The DSO must be a

U.S. permanent residence or U.S. citizenship to comply with US Immigration and Custom Enforcement, ICE.

Immigration Compliance and Designated School Official Responsibilities:

  • Reviews BANNER and OnBase admission reports; issues initial I-20s, handles I-20 deferrals, and tracks pending change of status I-20s; handles urgent expedite requests for international student athletes.

  • Reviews immigration check-in e-forms for new F-1 students and performs initial SEVIS registration and reporting functions.

  • Fulfills general DSO functions in SEVIS; serves as a main contact for F-1 visa employment-based guidance related to on-campus employment, and practical training (CPT, OPT, and STEM OPT).

  • Provides general immigration and visa information and guidance to current and prospective F-1 students via 1:1 sessions, group advising, or ISS orientation/information sessions.

  • Assists the Associate Director in preparing lists and reports for SEVIS reporting, health insurance compliance, and other data needs for ISS.

Special Student Population Responsibilities:

  • Tracks all active government-sponsored students on a semester basis and reports students to Controller's department through routine shared reports, collects government financial guarantee letters, and issues verification letters as required by the sponsoring agency.

  • Monitors applications for the Florida-Israel Linkage Institute Scholarship (FILS), including document collection and eligibility reviews for new and continuing exemption awards.

  • Serves and monitors Sponsored students F1 population.

  • Serves as the primary F-1 advisor to select groups such as international student athletes and Davis Global Scholar Awardees.

General ISS Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the backup for the front desk, phone and general ISS email as needed.

  • Supports ISS team with international orientation, resource fair, signature events, and tabling events.

  • Represents ISS and CGE to various campus events such as career fairs, admission & events, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned by ISS Director or Associate Director.

Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate specialization and to (2) years of appropriate work experience required.

U.S. permanent residence or U.S. citizenship to comply with the federal regulations for the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and Designated School Official (DSO) role as defined in 8 CFR 214.3 (l) (1), which can be found on the Regulations page of ICE.gov required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

Highly organized and ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment required.

Experience working in an international student office with F-1 student populations required.


Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Master's degree in education, international relations/studies or similar field.
