Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:

The Director of Development Communications & Marketing will be a key member of the University Development Office, responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with donors and alumni to secure philanthropic support for Texas Southern University. The Director of Development Communications and Marketing will oversee the development, management, and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communications plan to advance the long-term strategic direction and revenue goals of the unit. This role reports to the Associate Vice President of Development and has supervision of the Director of Donor Relations & Stewardship.

Essential Duties Summary:

  • Provides both vision and operational marketing and communications leadership that is forward­ thinking, brand, audience relevant, and results oriented.
  • Collaborates, influences, and works productively with cross-functional teams to drive the implementation of marketing and communication strategies and campaigns including marketing
  • sponsorship activations, and gift solicitations.
  • Assist with increasing and deepening the connectivity and loyalty of Texas Southern University & The Texas Southern University Foundation constituent through effective brand management
  • practices and donor recognition.
  • Conveys the value proposition of Texas Southern University and Texas Southern University Foundation through robust and high-impact media relations programs that result in consistent
  • and frequent major gift and annual fund coverage.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor and expert on Internal and external communications matters to the Development & Alumni Engagement Leadership.
  • Develops executive and leadership-level communications including speeches, message points, and other high-level correspondence both for oral, digital, and print communication.
  • Creates and manages campaign project timelines through asset development.
  • Leverage's technology and uses a wide variety of platforms Including social media, email, and print.
  • Evaluate and assess the use of technology and platforms, Including the giving website, to maximize the results of marketing and communications campaigns.
  • Uses internal and external data sources to develop and manage performance dashboard that tracks and evaluates brand health, affinity, and the performance of marketing and
  • communications campaigns.
  • Regularly report on progress and make recommendations on any strategic adjustments and refinements.
  • Devise and Implement operational strategies and processes for an efficient, agile, and coordinated communications and marketing operation.
  • Manage external marketing and communications partners including agencies, production teams, freelancers, and other vendors to ensure maximum performance and return on investment.
Collaboration:Works closely with the university leadership, faculty, and staff to align fundraising efforts with academic and institutional objectives.
Event Participation:Attends and actively engages in university events, including alumni gatherings, donor receptions, and fundraising campaigns, which may require travel, evenings, weekends, and potential holiday work.
Data Management:Works with the Executive Director of Advancement Services to maintain accurate and up-to­ date donors in the university's CRM system, tracking interactions, gifts, solicitations, proposals, and progress toward fundraising goals.% FTE:

Work Experience:

  • At least three years of successful experience in communications and marketing.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee the management of multiple complex campaigns.
  • Proven ability to work effectively In a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in brand management, marketing, and media relations.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Superior editorial and copywriting skills.
  • Progressively responsible experience in multi-platform message development.
  • Experience coaching, motivating, and leading a team.
  • Familiarity with trends in social media and digital marketing
  • Experience with CRM and marketing technology systems and data-driven decision-making
  • Experience in non-profit organizations preferred.
Working/Environmental Conditions:

  • Limited standing and/or walking.
  • Handling light weight objects.
  • Using or carrying equipment.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, or lift.
  • May require routine travel.
