Job Summary

The Director of Operations is a key member of the divisional leadership team, responsible for the overall performance and efficiency of the division's operations. This role oversees all aspects of production, procurement, quality, and manufacturing engineering, ensuring that the division meets its production targets, quality standards, and cost objectives. The Director of Operations will lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and execute the division's operational strategy in alignment with overall business goals.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement across all operational functions.

Operational Management:
  • Oversee all aspects of production, procurement, quality, and manufacturing engineering to ensure optimal performance.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth coordination and alignment of operations.

Leadership and Team Development:
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the operations team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Develop and mentor direct reports, providing opportunities for growth and development.
  • Recruit and retain top talent to build a strong and capable operations team.

Financial Management:
  • Develop and manage the division's operational budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Monitor financial performance and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Analyze and report on operational costs and variances to management.

Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including safety, environmental, and quality.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks to ensure business continuity.
  • Develop and implement contingency plans to address potential disruptions.


Education and Experience Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. MBA preferred.

Experience:
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in operations management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success in improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing quality.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.


Skills and Abilities
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a focus on results.
  • Proficient in Lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and other relevant software.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • This position requires approximately 60% of time spent in the production area, interacting with staff and overseeing operations, with the remaining 40% in a professional office environment.
  • The role involves a combination of sitting and working at a computer, standing and walking within the production area, and occasional travel to other company facilities or industry events.
  • While in the production area, the Director of Operations may be exposed to moderate noise levels and varying temperatures. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in certain areas.
