ECS is seeking a NMFS Dashboard Programmer to work in our Silver Spring MD office.
Job Description:
ECS is seeking a full-time, Research Associate to provide dashboard development support to NOAA Fisheries Office of Science and Technology.
This project will develop a Dashboard of Seafood Market metrics is to improve the availability, access, and detail of data and baseline market summary indices/metrics available to leadership, researchers and the public. The interactive dashboard will enable economists, policy makers and the public to more quickly identify strengths and weaknesses in the seafood markets that can guide domestic policies that can in turn support industry growth.
Back-end development activities for data collection and automation will include:
- Gathering and assembling data on seafood production and trade to construct metrics.
- Automating the retrieval of data so that metrics can be updated regularly.
- Automating calculation metrics in R or another statistical software package.
- Developing an update schedule for metrics.
Front-end development activities for dashboard development will include:
- Developing a dashboard in Tableau as an interface for the display of performance metrics.
- Linking data to R and Tableau to facilitate both calculation of metrics and the incorporation of metrics into the dashboard.
- Coordinating and collaborating with other divisions to publish and maintain the dashboard on the website.
Other General Information:
- Additional experience may be substituted for Masters degree
- Must have the ability to obtain a public trust security clearance.
- Will be provided with a government issued laptop.
- Preference is to be local to the Silver Spring commuting area, but all candidates will be considered.
- Regular check-ins are required but can be completed remotely.
Required Skills: - 3+ years of experience in relevant fields.
- Master's degree in the data sciences, social sciences, or related fields.
- Experience coding in either R or Stata (preferably R) and shall submit example code.
- Expertise in Tableau with examples.

Ability to obtain and retain a Public Trust security clearance.
Desired Skills: - PhD preferred.
- Experience in economics, social sciences, fisheries analysis is preferred.
