Applications Coordinator/ Analyst II, Population Health, and Value-based care

Reporting to Application Manager, Healthy Planet/Ambulatory

Mass General Brigham is growing its Epic software portfolio and implementing Epic's Compass Rose and Value-based care products. The primary responsibility of this position is to support the Epic Compass Rose and Healthy Planet needs of the organization through project coordination, application implementation, development, upgrades and ongoing maintenance and enhancements.

The Opportunity

The Application Coordinator supports supports the implementation of Epic's Compass Rose and Value-based care modules for population health management. The Application Coordinator reports directly to an Application Manager within the Inpatient, Ambulatory, or Departmental Application teams; s/he is part of a team dedicated to configuring, building, testing and activating the assigned application database. Applications include Emergency, Clinical Documentation, Obstetrics, CPOE/eMar, Inpatient Pharmacy, Oncology, HIM, OR, Anesthesia, Radiology, Home Health.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary organizational support for Epic Healthy Planet and Compass Rose.
  • Analyze and test applicable new software and software upgrades.
  • Work with business and clinical stakeholders and other technical experts to implement population health and analytics tools within Epic and other business intelligence platforms.
  • Employ analytical skills to implement design decisions, build system components via build tools, and complete system testing. This includes workflows for Care Management, creating new Care Management programs, updating quality metrics criteria, and maintaining/enhancing provider Quality Dashboards and reporting workbench.
  • Perform population health reporting and help drive population health strategy for a complex patient population.
  • Respond to all requests according to department standards.
  • Participate in data collection and documentation of strategy to help make business decisions.
  • Organize, schedule, run meetings and distribute meeting notes.
  • Interact with all levels of healthcare professionals and staff in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Perform routine and ad hoc reporting within Epic that supports physician leadership and the Value-Based Care department.
• Function as part of a team of software application and workflow experts to provide design & build expertise to analyze organization's current business practices and translate them into configurations and workflows, for successful product implementation.

• Will participate in new product implementations, gather requirements, work with clinical and business stakeholders and facilitate decision-making using healthcare software applications.

• Ability to help guide decisions using application knowledge and analysis in a timely fashion.

• Participates in peer review for quality assurance of team member build and assists with onboarding & mentoring of new team members.

• Works closely with end users to document business requirements and translates those business requirements into functional specifications for the software application.

• Develops and executes test plans and performs other software quality assurance tasks.

• Provides ongoing support of the software applications by identifying and resolving issues and escalating as needed for timely resolution.

• Provides high quality, customer-focused services.

• Runs reports, updates tables and performs other tasks associated with the ongoing operation of the software environment.

• Participates in regular team meetings to discuss team activities, issues, and updates.

Qualifications
Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Business, IT, Healthcare, or related required. Clinical degrees desirable.
• Minimum of 5 years related experience, including experience with healthcare clinical systems.
• Solid understanding of clinical workflow relevant to assigned application team.
• Must have experience in developing and integrating business processes.
• Epic Certification in Compass Rose, Value-based Care Analytics, Epiccare Ambulatory desired or must obtain Epic Certification as outlined by program requirements.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies

• Experience in the development, support, or operation of software applications in a healthcare setting

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical staff.

• Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to learn quickly.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and other popular office productivity solutions

• Ability to apply clinical workflow to the design of information systems.
• Understanding of change management techniques, and the ability to apply them.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving and negotiation skills.
• Ability to effectively conduct meetings, both formal and informal including departmental and clinical user meetings. Can lead and facilitate small-medium working sessions with all levels of staff.
• Self-motivated, independent and possesses the ability to learn quickly
• Ability to successfully negotiate and collaborate with others of different skill sets, backgrounds and levels within and external to the organization
• Demonstrated ability to assimilate and understand new software releases and succeed in a changing environment
• Ability to build consensus across teams, with staff and leadership.
• Ability to review project deliverables for completeness, quality, and compliance with established project standards.
• Ability to document and communicate the status of progress against plans, taking corrective action as necessary

Working Conditions

• Office setting Hybrid model, with some local travel between MGB Healthcare System sites.
• On call coverage
• Some travel for training

Supervisory Responsibility

• No staff; provides guidance to less seasoned and new staff.

Fiscal Responsibility

• Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using MGB resources.
