The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc (UTFI) invites applications and nominations to fill the position of Executive Director of Events for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in Alumni Relations. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor, the Executive Director of Events is responsible for leveraging the strengths of division-wide colleagues to elevate UT’s presence among our internal and external stakeholders.

This position's purpose is to strategically align, conceptualize, and execute alumni and donor events both on and off campus, in and out of state, and oversee virtual event experiences for the UT Knoxville campus. The Executive Director will create a vision for building a mission focus and performance driven events strategy that introduces new and reimagined signature events either virtual or in-person. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Management and Leadership: Oversee two direct reports, and team of seven full- time staff members dedicated to providing a comprehensive alumni and donor event experience including cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and recognition. Optimize project management tools to manage all aspects of team oversight. 

Event Management: Lead and manage strategic planning for events and provide guidance and partnership to individuals on-campus who direct and manage university related events, including those in Student Life, Athletics, Colleges and Schools, Access and Engagement, Chancellor’s Office, and the UT Foundation. Implement a campus- wide approach to assessing the success and effectiveness of events and foster a culture of excellence and continuous operational improvement. Sets direction for all signature events, develops SOPs and utilizes data and analytics to measure event effectiveness and increases alumni engagement and fundraising. Manages division-wide event strategies, budget development, corporate sponsorship, revenue generation, policy assessment, and collaboration with various teams for effective event execution and reporting.



Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

The candidate who fills the Executive Director of Events position is required to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in event and/or volunteer management, marketing, communications, and other advancement areas of work.
  • 2+ years of leadership and management experience
  • Excellent oral and written communications
  • Ability to handle multiple events at once, willingness to travel, and adapt to variety of situations
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines

 

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required due to travel responsibilities of the position. UTFI reserves the right to consider all appropriate circumstances.  In general, any significant driving offense less than 12 months old will eliminate the application from consideration for the position.

Note - Candidates holding a graduate degree must have at least 5 years of experience.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

In addition to meeting the required qualifications, the preferred candidate will have:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Event planning experience in higher education
