Job Description Summary
This position will primarily support pre-award activities within the Department of Medicine's Special Operations Unit. The Grants Manager will be responsible for multiple monthly proposal submissions for various divisions within DOM. The GM will manage proposal development, budget development, and related pre-award activities for a diverse sponsor portfolio and manage post-award activities including account setup, monitoring and review of all sponsored project expenditures, and fund projections.
Job Description
This position will primarily support pre-award activities within the Department of Medicine's Special Operations Unit. The Grants Manager will be responsible for multiple monthly proposal submissions for various divisions within DOM. The GM will manage proposal development, budget development, and related pre-award activities for a diverse sponsor portfolio. The GM will manage post-award activities including account setup, monitoring and review of all sponsored project expenditures, and fund projections. They will be expected to monitor and enforce compliance with sponsor guidelines and OMB Uniform Guidance and meet with principal investigators to discuss and advise them on financial issues related to their portfolios. S/he will maintain salary grids and work with payroll coordinators to ensure faculty and staff are paid correctly and will assist in the preparation and review of effort reports. The GM will participate in specific projects including the annual budget submission, and will work on more complicated grants including clinical research grants and program projects with multiple sub-contracts.
Grants Manager B: The GM B will work more independently and actively participate in specific projects, including the annual budget submission. The GM B will have a greater grants management experience than the GM A, such that s/he can make greater contributions, including engaging in more complex financial analysis.
The Grants Manager will report to the Associate Director, Sponsored Programs and will have an indirect reporting relationship to the PSOM Office of Research Support Services.
Qualifications
Experience with NIH and other federal granting agencies is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Adobe, and Business Objects.
Excellent critical thinking, analytical, verbal, and written communication is required. Working knowledge of Uniform Guidance is required.
Ability to apply solid organizational and time management skills to a deadline driven, multiple priority work environment is required.
Familiarity with Penn Sponsored Research policies and related financial systems is preferred.
Grants Manager A:
Bachelor's Degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Grants Manager B:
Bachelor's Degree and 5 to 7 years of grant and contract administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree PREFERRED.
