Job Description Summary
The Harrison Scholar program was established to provide research experience for post-baccalaureate students who are interested in pursuing an academic career in medicine. This one-year program introduces the Harrison Scholar to one or more of the following areas of research: Basic Science; Clinical Trials, Translational. The research area/exact project(s) will be determined by the faculty mentor and the finalist for the position as determined during the interview process.
Position is contingent upon continued grant funding.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree and 1-2 years of experience.
Job Description
The Harrison Scholar program was established to provide research experience for post-baccalaureate students who are interested in pursuing an academic career in medicine. This one-year program introduces the Harrison Scholar to one or more of the following areas of research: Basic Science; Clinical Trials, Translational. The research area/exact project(s) will be determined by the faculty mentor and the finalist for the position as determined during the interview process.
Basic science research may include some or all of the following: assisting with laboratory procedures, simple to complex, cell isolation, DNA/RNA/protein isolation and analysis, PCR, ELISA.and experimental techniques as required. Research specific to clinical trials may include some or all of the following: preparation of regulatory documents for IRB submission, assisting with screening, enrollment, randomization of human subjects, data abstraction and entry in electronic data base systems. Translational research involves assisting with the transition of basic science research to clinical research which may include clinical trials or other limited studies. The Harrison Scholar will also be expected to complete at least one independent project that is developed in collaboration with the faculty mentor and submitted for presentation at a national meeting. This is a one-year position with a maximum of 40 hours per week and may require irregular works hours including evening and weekends.
