Job Summary

Responsible for facilitating Structured Learning Assistance (SLA) in courses, developing instructional support materials, assessing SLA program effectiveness, and recommending and implementing changes to SLA program. Serve all students as a TRUE Learning Community by promoting student success through student learning, development, and retention. This position is dependent upon grant funding.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and facilitate SLA in Mathematics to students in a group or on an individual basis at various locations, both virtually and face-to-face.
  • Collaborate with Mathematics faculty and the Division Chair to understand students' specific academic needs and progress. Regularly communicate with faculty to ensure alignment of SLA with course objectives and address any concerns and improvements in instructional support. Attend Mathematics courses to observe and gain insight into the teaching methodologies, content delivery, and student participation.
  • Develop, maintain, and update educational materials, including handouts, worksheets, and digital resources for instructional support to promote learning and fulfill the SLA program objectives. Maintain SLA attendance records; complete and return required reports to the appropriate office by the due date.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Title V to align efforts, strategies, and actions with the grant's objectives. Work as a team to ensure the successful implementation and achievement of the grant's goals.
  • Prepare and participate in the SLA program review process. Prepare periodic reports as required by the Title V grant.
  • Participate in Professional Development activities to update knowledge of the subject area and remain current in techniques and appropriate instructional technology. Represent the college and/or the grant on internal and external committees as appropriate to the position.
  • Collaborate with Student Support Services, and various college departments to ensure a holistic approach to student success.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • The position may perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position, including participating in committee assignments and recruiting and retaining students.



Qualifications

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director - Title V
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics/Mathematics Education

EXPERIENCE: Two years applicable experience in 7-12th grade or Higher Education

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience with methods and techniques of learning and instructional support.
  • Knowledge of the methods and practices used in conducting research and in report preparation.
  • Knowledge and experience with various instructional technologies.
  • Knowledge and skills in developing innovative instructional support programs, planning and evaluations, and implementing continuous improvement plans.
  • Knowledge and skills operating a variety of multimedia equipment, computer systems, hardware, and relevant software applications.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills working with a diverse population.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10 lbs) and easy-to-handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other facilities due to long periods of standing, sitting, and repetitive motion.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

The position requires effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively in a diverse educational setting. This includes the ability to build positive relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues, actively listen to students' needs, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity to create an inclusive learning environment. Collaboration with various stakeholders, effective communication with faculty, and adaptability in communication styles are essential for promoting student success through the Structured Learning Assistance program and aligning efforts with grant objectives.

This is a pension system that requires mandatory contributions from the employee with a matching contribution from the employer. The 24-25 fiscal year contribution rate is 12.27%. Membership to ASRS is a condition of employment and is not optional unless you are at least 65 years of age and meet the opt out eligibility requirements, or are a retiree from ASRS .
