Department Information
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Performs pre-clinical imaging research in collaboration with investigators throughout the IU School of Medicine.
- Operates the imaging system (i.e., 9.4T Bruker PET-MRI scanner).
- Works with physicists preparing imaging protocols, basic imaging data collection and processing, preparing and maintaining animal care and use protocols.
- Manages study logistics including animal transportation and general laboratory maintenance.
- Operates and maintains equipment used for anesthesia.
- Operates and maintains equipment used to collect physiologic data.
- Monitors animals during recovery from anesthesia.
- Prepares associated documentation.

- Maintains equipment, including preventive maintenance, scheduling repairs as needed, service agreement negotiations, trouble shooting equipment malfunctions, and maintaining an active list of vendors to respond to equipment loss.
- Supervises, mentors, and provides training for junior-level staff.
- Prepares summary data reports, and creates and maintains databases for storage and analysis.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable local and federal regulations.
- May design and conduct a wide range of complex experiments.

EDUCATION
Required- Bachelor's degree in a science related field.
Preferred- Master's degree in a sciences related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required- 3 years of laboratory research experience

Working Conditions / DemandsThe role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
