About the Position:

The role of the lock shop maintenance service worker is to install, repair and maintain locks, cylinders, keys and door closures of various types. Must be able to work on all types of locking hardware and closures.

Essential Functions:

  • Replace locks and cylinders as routine maintenance. Able to troubleshoot locks, cylinders and door closers and make appropriate repairs.
  • Replace/repair door closures and locking hardware
  • Be available to respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours. Provide functional/operational support to campus as essential personnel during times of emergency, catastrophe, inclement weather, etc.
  • Cut keys and re-key cylinders
  • Other duties as directed.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

A minimum of three (3) years of experience is required.

Candidate with vocational training/certification in locksmith is preferred.

Must posses TX driver license and clear MVR.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate ability to interpret master-keying code systems and must understand mechanical keying systems as large as 6 bits. Position requires manual dexterity. Candidate must be able to securely maintain sensitive records & equipment. Strong customer service skills are required. Candidate must be detail-oriented.

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
