The Human Resources Learning & Development team is actively seeking the right teammate to support training delivery efforts across North America, as the Manager Learning and Development. Our mission is simple: To inspire and empower Dexcom employees to achieve their fullest potential by providing comprehensive and innovative development programs, tools, and resources while fostering a culture of continuous growth and performance excellence to drive the overall success of the organization.

As the Manager Learning & Development, you will lead a training team to promote a high-tech, hands-on approach to training. This role has overall responsibility for planning, implementing, and directing employee training across the business to meet company and internal customer objectives and ensure alignment to global training implementation processes. In this role, you will also build relationships with cross functional workstreams and business partners and foster a culture of collaboration, partnership, and continuous improvement.

Where you come in:

  • You will develop and implement a structured training management system that enables scaling and continuous improvement and adds value by increasing production numbers, maintaining quality, increasing flexibility, and reducing costs.
  • You will lead and manage a training delivery team by confidently directing work, delegating tasks, and empowering the team to execute duties in a manner that aligns with business goals.
  • You will work with cross-functional teams to support the installation and ramp of commercial production.
  • You will partner with internal and external stakeholders to define, prioritize, and develop training plans, ensuring alignment on program deliverables.
  • You will assist in recruiting and training subject matter experts who can facilitate highly active and engaging learning experiences for all employees.
  • You will collaborate to document and publish internal processes and standards.
  • You will use training evaluation data to identify opportunities and drive ongoing performance improvement within both the business and the training process.
  • You will ensure the training delivery team's commitment to comply with established safety practices and documented quality system procedures at all stages of training.
  • You will establish an annual training budget and manage expenditures throughout the year in conjunction with site leadership and HR Learning & Development.
  • You will employ sound leadership, management techniques, and best practices in supervising your team (e.g., provide guidance, support, conflict mitigation, tools, and resources).
  • You will encourage individual and team development and establish measured performance goals for each team member regularly.

What makes you successful:
  • You have 10+ years of coaching and training experience, with a minimum of 5 years managing direct reports, and a minimum of 2 years managing projects.
  • You demonstrate extensive knowledge of:
    • Theories and models of adult learning
    • Diverse instructional modalities (e.g., instructor-led, computer-based, augmented/virtual reality, etc.)
    • Types and applications of facilitation techniques (e.g., role play, games, practical exercises)
    • Skills for effectively sourcing, establishing, and managing partnerships (e.g., vendors, colleges, professional associations).
  • You have strong experience in:
    • Building and managing work groups by leveraging team dynamics, delegating tasks, and fostering collaboration.
    • Coordinating the logistical tasks associated with planning learning events.
    • Developing project plans and schedules that integrate resources, tasks, and timelines.
    • Establishing, monitoring, and communicating progress toward the achievement of goals, objectives, and milestones.
    • Facilitating learning events using multiple delivery methods (e.g., instructor-led, computer-based, OJT).
    • Creating a positive learning environment.
    • Selecting and employing the most effective delivery format and media to achieve optimal learning or behavioral outcomes.
    • Using a learning management system to manage the deployment of training materials, record completion of training, and report training data to inform leadership and drive decision making.
    • Improving training effectiveness by coaching facilitators and other training professionals.
    • Supporting professional development by helping to identify goals and develop realistic action plans while monitoring progress and accountability.
    • Understanding how training, development, and performance improvement contributes to an organization's competitive advantage.
  • You demonstrate:
    • Effective communication skills such as active listening, expressing ideas clearly and concisely, providing timely, constructive feedback, and adapting communication style as needed for intended audience.
    • Comfort with presenting issues and challenges, along with proposed solutions, to leadership in a timely manner.
    • Ability to flex and adapt to rapidly changing circumstances in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
    • A high level of emotional intelligence.
    • Approachability and trustworthiness.
    • Strong conflict mitigation skills.
    • Willingness to collaborate and share knowledge both departmentally and cross-functionally.

Preferred qualifications include:
  • Manufacturing experience essential, automation environment an advantage
  • Degrees in training, learning and development, or human performance improvement
  • Teaching, training, or facilitation certificate or credentials
  • Project management certification or comparable experience
  • Behavioral assessment certification (e.g., The Predictive Index, DiSC).
  • Medical device industry experience
  • Experience with start-up/scale-up organizations

Travel Required:
  • 25-50%

Educational Requirements:
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree with 8-12 years of industry experience
  • 2-5 years of previous management or lead experience
