Purpose

The primary purpose of the CWS Fort Collins Immigration Paralegal and Colorado Refugee Sponsorship Program Navigator is to provide legal support to the Immigration Legal Services Program in providing representation and follow-up services to eligible immigrants. They will also join our team as the Colorado Refugee Sponsorship Program Navigator providing virtual assistance to Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR)-eligible refugee and migrant populations. Eligible clients include Cuban and Haitian entrants, Ukrainian humanitarian parolees, refugees, SIVs, and other qualified newcomers.

The Navigator/Paralegal provides trauma-informed and client-centered services to support individual refugee needs, offering a range of educational, financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services and resources as appropriate based on refugee need and eligibility.

This is a hybrid position, based out of the CWS Fort Collins office with a minimum of 2 days in office. The Paralegal will work directly with incoming families, with the support of an interpreter as needed and will be required to complete a background check, confidentiality agreement, and training modules, treating all individuals with compassion, understanding, and respect. Spanish fluency is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake interviews and assessments for Cuban Haitian entrants, Ukrainian parolees, Afghans, and other refugee and immigrant newcomers to determine eligibility for case management, cash assistance and legal services.
  • Meet with clients to gather information, fill out questionnaires, and assess their distinct needs for support services.
  • With the Staff Attorney's supervision, prepare U.S. immigration applications, primarily Employment Authorization Cards (EAD), for various immigration benefits, ensuring all required evidence and documentation is accurately compiled.
  • Provide virtual case management to a caseload of ORR-eligible immigrants and refugees, monitoring their progress towards established goals.
  • Regularly connect with local service providers, community-based organizations, and other agencies throughout the State of Colorado to ensure that ORR-eligible clients are provided the basic tools necessary to meet their established short-term goals and objectives for their resettlement in the U.S.
  • Assess and monitor case management clients' progress at regular intervals to ensure progress on goals is made, designated resources are maximized and modify initial resettlement plans and other case file documents as required.
  • Assist ORR-eligible clients to access health and mental health resources, employment and job support, and immigration legal services by assessing and evaluating each refugees' distinct needs and provide timely referrals. Support eligible clients with RCA cash assistance distribution and tracking; provide donations and other forms of assistance, as needed.
  • Maintain accuracy in client case files and case logs; update supervisor on case status; ensure compliance with case file management and reporting requirements, including timely data entry in hard-copy files and databases.
  • Perform follow up with clients, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the immigration courts, and other key players in immigration legal services.
  • Provide administrative support to the CWS Immigration Legal Services team, including communicating with clients, scheduling appointments, entering data in case management systems, and creating and organizing files.
  • Conduct legal research for specific immigration cases and present in an organized and well-written manner.
  • Perform other duties as requested to support team needs and enhance program effectiveness.

Qualifications

Education:
  • BA required
Experience:
  • Miniimum of 3 years of relevant expereince including working in casemanagement with refugees.
Other Skills:
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish are required for this position.
  • The successful candidate must be highly detail-oriented and possess superior organizational and task management abilities.Respect for client confidentiality. Strong computer literacy, with knowledge of word processing and database applications, and ability to use standard office equipment in performing varied activities. Superior written and verbal communication skills.

Special Requirements

This is a Hybrid with a minimum of two days in office requirement.
