Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Major Gifts and Corporate & Foundation Giving (C&F), the Development Officer will be responsible for enhancing efficiencies and effectiveness of the comprehensive Major Gifts and C&F program comprised of approximately 35 employees. The Officer will help support communication and planning to enhance volunteer engagement. The Officer will also help streamline key integrated processes between Major Gifts, C&F, and Donor Relations, Communications and Events, Prospect Research, and Information Services, among others. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of development experience.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively support the Associate Vice President by coordinating core activities of the Major Gifts/C&F team. Meet regularly to provide timely and relevant updates, bring new ideas to the table, and create systems that will improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of the Major Gifts/C&F program.
  • Provide thoughtful and efficient coordination of Major Gift &C/F efforts related to the Office of the AMC President's Office and including the President's Advisory Board and ten clinical and research advisory boards comprising more than 200 volunteer donors. Responsibilities such as tracking new nominations, facilitating invitation letters, and maintaining members lists and documentation.
  • Provide support to the Major Gifts/C&F team and coordinate with Communications and Events for efforts surrounding the Leadership Summit and signature events. Provide ideas and coordination that will enhance the experience of donors and volunteer leaders. Work with donors, faculty, and staff where appropriate to ensure effective meetings and logistical matters.
  • Leverage the fundraising database, ATLAS CRM, to determine progress toward goals and metrics, provide accurate and timely reporting, and ensure consistency of data which will enhance new data insights analytics.
  • Support and schedule Major Gifts and C&F meetings, prospect strategy sessions, and prospect assignments.
  • Curate, maintain, and keep updated central resources for the Major Gifts including, but not limited to, Philanthropy Handbook, "Plus Delta library," proposal library, capital toolkits, and others.
  • Interact directly with donors, faculty, and other constituents, demonstrating excellent judgment and discretion and representing BWH Development with the highest degree of excellence.
  • Write, proofread, edit, and review briefings, memos, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • Update information in fundraising database including biographical information, fund designation, receipts, and acknowledgments as appropriate, producing queries, reports, and mail merges.
  • Effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues with internal/external constituencies and departments using diplomacy and tact.
  • Work successfully in a highly results-oriented, fast paced environment, where the team is proactive and focused on advancing prospects towards closing gifts.


Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A bachelor's degree and 3-5 years' experience in development, with a preference toward a working knowledge of major gifts.
  • Experience with medical fundraising either in a hospital or an academic medical center would be strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must possess advanced knowledge/skills with the Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database software and scheduling/organizing software; and must have exceptional customer services skills. Raiser's Edge experience is preferred.

  • Appreciation for and an ability to articulate eloquently the mission of assigned department(s), the BWH, curriculum and programs.
  • The intellectual depth and maturity to garner the trust and confidence of the leadership of Development, faculty, and administrators, as well as volunteers and grateful patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring to bear the time of volunteers, academic, clinical, and administrative staff in contacts with donors. This includes strong preparation and sound judgment about the extent to which cultivation can effectively be staff driven.
  • The ability to build bridges and strong relationships across a complex organization. Political astuteness and agility along with discretion.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work autonomously under pressure of multiple and sequential time frames.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, ability to try new things, the courage to speak and act on convictions, intelligence, insight, initiative, resilience, and the ability to act on their own initiative.
