The University of Iowa Parking & Transportation department is seeking a Parking Maintenance Worker I. This position will assist in the installation, maintenance, and minor repair of parking equipment and facilities and constructs and installs traffic, parking, and related signs.
This position is performed fully on campus.
Duties to Include:
- Assists in the installation, maintenance, and minor repair of parking equipment, which includes proper calibration of gate arms, reinstalling REPM equipment, testing hardware in general to trouble shoot.
- Constructs and installs traffic, parking, and related signs.
- Maintain safety, readiness and cleanliness of parking ramps, surface lots, and pedestrian areas through the operations of industrial sweepers, power washers, snowplows, sanders, snow blowers, air brooms, skid loaders, paint machine, trucks and hand work.
- Responds to ticket jams, pay station coin jams, improperly working gate arms, and all other parking revenue/control equipment and software malfunctions.
- Collects money from pay station when station jams or becomes inoperable.
- Responds to plumbing issues in ramps and booths ranging from broken water pipes to clogged toilets and sinks. Repairs and replaces water spigots in the ramp and on power washing equipment.
- Small engine repair such as spark plug installation and oil changing.
- Checks and responds in a timely manner to emails and computerized work order system. Operates tablet for both.
- Cleans, paints and performs minor surface repair of parking lots.
- Performs related maintenance functions in office, shop and field areas.
- Attends weekly staff meetings and quarterly all staff maintenance meetings.
- Must be able to move objects more than 25 pounds and traverse various campus locations (e.g. parking lots and parking ramps).

Schedule: Wednesday through Saturday (into Sunday) 7:30pm-6:00am; Four, 10-hour shifts. (overtime as required for special events (i.e. athletic events, concerts, snow removal, etc.)
Position is eligible for a 3rd shift differential of $1.75 per hour in addition to the hourly rate. Department: Parking & Transportation

About Parking & Transportation: The Parking and Transportation Department provides and supports access, mobility, and transportation services to faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors of The University of Iowa. The department consists of five operating units; CAMBUS, Commuter Programs, Fleet Services, Facility Operations, and Parking Services. These units collaborate to provide a broad range of parking and transportation options and services.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements: - One year of related experience working with comparable equipment, both electrical and mechanical.
- Possession of a current, valid driver's license.
Special Qualifications: - A valid driver's license is required, as well as an ability to meet University of Iowa Driving Policy.
Desirable Qualifications: - Knowledge of University of Iowa Campus and locations of various parking facilities.
- Experience working in maintenance operations.
- Experience with motor vehicles, industrial sweeper, skid loaders and snow removal equipment.
- Experience with cash handling.
- Extensive computer knowledge.
- Good communication skills.
- Radio communication experience.
