The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Patient Navigator with a hire date of June 2024 .
The University of Miami Health System will soon open the second phase to our state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion will continue to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community. UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. Once complete, UHealth at Doral will have 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy. UHealth at Doral will open in September, 2024.
The Patient Navigator facilitates patients' ability to obtain services by identifying barriers to care, coordinating the development of treatment plans, and monitoring the implementation and follow-up of services ordered by caregivers.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Conducts patient evaluations to obtain information necessary for the development of an effective treatment plan.
2. Ensures patients have access to insurance and social service programs for which they are eligible.
3. Provides patient reminders of upcoming appointments and acts as liaison between patients and providers.
4. Identifies and resolves real or perceived barriers to care.
5. Educates and counsels patients on issues related to their health and life situations.
6. Maintains current knowledge of community health, welfare resources, and any other programs available to patients.
7. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience required Experience in a medical office or hospital preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
• Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
• Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Department Specific Functions
• Maintains the Welcome/Patient Resource Center.
• Provides patient education regarding cancer support services provided at Sylvester
• Supports patients as a liaison to services and departments within Sylvester and UHEALTH • Provides wayfinding services and tours to cancer patients when needed.
• Participates in and supports new patient orientation classes • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
• Performs patient call back to complete Patient Satisfaction Survey.
• Assists with other clerical duties, not limited to faxing, scanning, copying, and ordering supplies.
• Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent customer service skills are required.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff
• Computer skills Microsoft Office and Excel
