Basic Job Functions:

The Metallurgist in the Quality Department is an integral part of our Nucor Steel Marion Team: positively impacting safety, creating solutions, enhancing commercial/operational excellence, contributing to teammate development, and sustained profitability. This position is actively involved in the review of new product inquiries/development, quality investigation, specification management, coordination of continuous improvement projects, support of our Operational and Commercial Team.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, or applicable technical field
•2 Years of steelmaking experience as a Metallurgist

Preferred Qualifications:

•Experience with clean steel practices
•Prior experience using QUAD Infotech Programs
•Prior experience using Oracle ERP System
•Working knowledge of ASTM standards specifications
•Experience with customer order inquires and complaint resolution
•Technical aptitude with the ability to gather and analyze to make data-driven decisions (Excel, SQL, IBA, etc.) as well as tactical decisions
•Prior working experience with mechanical testing and analytical equipment such as tensile testing machines, OE spectrometers, XRFs, LECOs, metallographic sample preparation, and optical microscopy
