Job Description Summary

The utility operator will be able to safely operate and adjust all processes for multiple pieces of equipment for smooth and productive operations; monitors line flow and waste; corrects problems which affect quality and production costs; and, makes line changes as directed by the production lead or supervisor. The process utility operator will be willing and able to seamlessly change positions between previously qualified jobs depending upon plant needs.

Job Description

Commit to one year minimum in the position from the date you are qualified for the first position and one year from any subsequent positions they are qualified for. During the one-year commitment you may not bid on any single non-interest bid position, beyond the one year the regular bid policy will be followed. Holding the Process Utility Operator position does not result in any specific job rights for the job you are qualified to back up.

An employee holding the Process Utility Operator position who moves to a different position may be required to work in any of the positions they are qualified in for a period of one year after bidding out. Upon successful completion of the prescribed training period, the employee will perform various duties as assigned by the plant management which may include any position within the production area.

A Process Utility Operator will be required to be trained/qualified for 4 positions in 1 of the 3 following groups:

  • Fryer Operator Group
  • Process Operator Group
  • Packaging Operator Group
  • L1 Fryer
  • L1 Process Op
  • L1 Pack Op
  • L2/L3 Fryer
  • L2 Process Op/L3 Process Op
  • L2/L3 Pack Op
  • Additive Operator
  • LADRE/Cutter Op
  • L1/L2 Pallet Op
  • Batter Operator
  • Waste Treatment
  • Scale House Attendant


Basic & Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Skills and Experience:
  • Must be able to communicate, comprehend, and follow instructions in English (both written and oral).
  • 1-2 years of experience in Food Manufacturing, or related field, preferred.
  • Functions well in team environment.
  • Demonstrates capable troubleshooting skills.
  • Capable of thinking critically.
  • Basic understanding/ Proficiency in PC skills; Windows, Word, and Excel.
  • Trained and qualified in Sorters, processing/packaging operations, and palletizer positions.

Physical Environment/Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.
  • Exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature.
  • Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for job actions and procedures.
  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
  • Ability to operate work related equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily. If requested, reasonable accommodations will be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job, absent undue hardship
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, humidity, oils, smells and allergens.
  • Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Freezer Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Plant Operation.
  • May have to sample food while evaluating Lamb Weston products.
  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis
  • Read, understand, and adhere to all plant rules and safety policies as specified in the Lamb Weston Employee Handbook.
  • Practice proper body mechanics and safe lifting techniques.

In compliance with applicable state and local laws, Lamb Weston has opted to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to a candidate's work location, job duties, experience and expertise. A reasonable hourly estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $26.54
