DEPARTMENT PURPOSE AND STRUCTURE
The HR team at A&O Shearman provides a first-class service to the business, offering strategic HR business advice at the business partner level and quality support services in the full range of HR functions through specialist teams such as, learning & development, resourcing, reward, employee relations advice, diversity and inclusion, payroll, systems and HR administration.

ROLE PURPOSE
As a key member of the Professional Development group within the U.S. HR team, this role provides day-to-day support in the areas of training, integration, and development.

JOB DESCRIPTION

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work closely with the Professional Development Senior Manager, training and development team, and internal stakeholders on legal and business professional training initiatives and programs, including Practice Group training, Business Skills programs, First Year Associate training and other training programs across all US offices.
  • Coordinate program logistics, including working with conference services and IT teams on reserving conference rooms, catering, room, and technology set-up.
  • Draft internal program invitations and communications, and track program attendance.
  • Handle compliance aspects of training programs such as program attendance/CLE sign-in sheets and evaluations.
  • Work with internal and external program faculty on program needs and materials.
  • Assist with the entry-level associate onboarding process.
  • Support the planning and execution of the First Year Associate orientation program and Summer Associate University, including managing logistics, liaising with faculty, and organizing events.
  • Support multi-day global programs (e.g., NITA workshops, off-sites, business and lawyering skills programs).
  • Manage the Training and Events calendar and email inbox - add programs to the calendar, track RSVPs, and answer attendee questions.
  • Manage the US program information on the firm's Intranet and Learning Portal.
  • Assist the HR Advisory and PD teams with Compass, our career development, performance management and engagement initiative.
  • Support our US coaching engagements and mentoring programs.
  • Accurately enter program information into Micron systems for CLE tracking and compliance.
  • Liaise with the Marketing team for client CLE presentations.
  • Assist as needed with CLE requirements for all US admitted attorneys across the firm.
  • Assist with the PD budget and submit invoices and expenses for PD/HR team.
  • Participate in other HR/PD functions, as needed.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 2 years of experience in the Professional Development area in a law firm.
  • Collaborative, resilient, high energy, team player with the ability to work in a fast paced, intellectually rigorous environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
