The MS in Computational Analysis and Public Policy (MS-CAPP) is a joint program between the Harris School of Public Policy at The University of Chicago.. MS-CAPP is the leading program for students seeking to leverage the power of technology and data science within the field of public policy. Job Summary
Reporting to the Program Director, the Program Coordinator will provide a broad range of programmatic, administrative and project support. The Program Coordinator will collaborate with staff in the Department of Computer Science and in the Harris School of Public Policy to ensure that the operations of the MS in Computational Analysis and Public Policy are effectively run. Responsibilities

  • Supports staff with administrative tasks such as printing, copying, and scanning.
  • Creates and maintains up to date program administrative lists and documents.
  • Prepares standard administrative forms and letters required by students.
  • Responds to student requests and questions or redirect them to the appropriate team member.
  • Prepares GEMS reports for faculty and staff, including receipt collection and uploading.
  • Manages and organizes inventory of program supplies and marketing materials for students and staff.
  • Facilitates MSCAPP website updates and edits.
  • Completes program research projects at the direction of program staff/faculty.
  • Administer the MSCAPP program's internal technology systems including user management, permissions and access, document management, and content sharing.
  • Serve as a liaison for the program and other departments by sitting on committees and working groups and representing the program's interests as well as raising relevant items to the team.
  • Plans, organizes, and staffs program events, including room reservations, set up, ordering food and clean up. Evening and weekend hours may be needed for these events.
  • Assists with information sessions, alumni events, and orientation including preparing handouts and registration confirmations.
  • Provide event planning and logistics for multi-day conferences with external and internal partners. Evening and weekend hours may be needed for these events.
  • Oversee and manage the copying, scanning and/or uploading of quarterly and final exams.
  • Proctors exams and quizzes for students with accommodations.Evening and weekend hours may be needed for these events.
  • Assists with the hiring of teaching assistants and tutors, including posting the jobs and coordinating with Human Resources to get students hired.
  • Assistant with the hiring and management of tutors, including posting the jobs and coordinating with Human Resources to get students hired.
  • Prepares special reports and summaries, assists in managing daily operation of the office, and may assist in developing administrative goals and policies. Maintains the leader's calendar.
  • Coordinates special projects as directed by the leader. Prepares write ups for recommendations for operational and administrative problems. Manages a portion of the leader's budget, monitoring and reconciling accounts. Prepares financial and/or administrative reports.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Experience:
  • Knowledge and skills developed through at least 5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • Genuine interest in public policy, social impact, or related fields.
  • Experience in an academic environment.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to compose effective and efficient reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to take initiative and organize and complete projects, at times with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Competencies
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a high level of work quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information with absolute discretion.
