GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Working independently and under general supervision from the Administrative Director of the CNCT and the Co-Investigators (Neurology/Neurosurgery) to support one clinical research study. This role may be responsible for the following activities: making independent judgments of the suitability of potential participants for clinical trials, developing and implementing patient recruitment strategies, recommending protocol changes, and overseeing the work of more entry-level staff. Collecting and organizing patient data; scheduling patients for study visits; performing clinical tests such as phlebotomy, EKGs, etc.; maintaining and updating data generated by the study; all IRB submissions such as applications, amendments, annual reviews, and adverse events. **This funding for this position is dependent on the acquisition and continuation of external research grants or funding.**

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinates the implementation, both internally and externally, of sponsored clinical research studies.

2. Initiates and maintains contact with study participants. Help screen applicants, ensuring they meet appropriate criteria, and makes independent judgment as to the suitability of their participation. May be required to perform clinical tests such as phlebotomy, EKGs, etc.

3. Working in concert with Principal Investigator and/or Research Manager, develops and implements patient recruitment strategies.

4. Develops, organizes, and/or maintains the study database. Responsible for data entry on electronic databases, validation and quality control.

5. In conjunction with Research Manager/Principal Investigator, develops and implements new research protocols including design, data collection systems and institutional review board approval.

6. Recommends changes to research protocols.

7. Performs literature searches, as appropriate.

8. Assists PI or Research Manager with preparation for presentation and written published articles.

9. Responsible for training and orienting new staff. May serve as a team leader or in a supervisory capacity in a smaller area.

10. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

BS or BA

At least one year of work experience in a research setting. Sound independent judgment and competence in research methodologies.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

1. Ability to work independently.

2. Ability to respond promptly to calls and report to work when "on-call".

3. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants.

4. Good oral and written communication skills.

5. Analytical skills and the ability to resolve technical or research problems and issues and to interpret the acceptability of data results.

6. Knowledge of clinical research protocols.

7. High degree of computer literacy.

8. Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.

9. Careful attention to detail.

10. Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects rights and individual needs.

11. Knowledge of data management programs.

Working conditions:

Work throughout the hospital areas such as clinic, labs, clinical trials center. Must be able to go independently to the investigational drug services pharmacy on L-2 to pick up investigational product, to clinic on ground and first floor. Daily operations conducted in open office cube space. May be required to lift boxes to ship to central lab or boxes of lab supplies.
