Position Summary:

The Program Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the research portfolio in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, accountable for day-to-day research operations, and research personnel management. Duties include ensuring research professionals and investigators are appropriately trained, productive according to research timelines and approved budgets, and performing activities in accordance with good clinical practice, SOM standards, institutional policy and regulatory requirements. The person in this role will also oversee and provide metrics and reports to department leadership on the previously mentioned activities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work and communicate with diverse populations effectively and professionally. Ability to work independently as well as function as part of a team. Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word, at least one statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, Stata, SPSS) and/or qualitative research software (e.g., Atlas.ti, NVivo) and with research specific databases (OnCore, REDcap).The candidate should be conversant with research policies and procedures at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Basic working knowledge of research in the area of assignment, retrieval of data/information, working within established deadlines, and working with projects of moderate scope and complexity.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years post graduate experience, including at least a year of experience working as a senior clinical research coordinator or equivalent role. A master's degree or higher is preferred.

The ideal candidate will have grants management experience, be creative, and be a dynamic leader with superior interpersonal and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will have well-developed attributes of professionalism, leadership, communication (verbal and written), presentation abilities, and superior organizational and time management skills. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both independently with little supervision as well as collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
