POSITION SUMMARY

Detail-oriented and experienced Senior MEP Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) systems in commercial construction projects. This role requires a thorough understanding of MEP systems, effective communication & analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams, trade partners and vendors. The estimates created will not be to self-perform the work, but to guide MEP budgets (in conjunction with trade partners) and provide input (quantities, workforce, hours, etc.) for the project schedule. This position can be based out of our Kansas City headquarters, or our DFW office.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Preconstruction

  • Develops conceptual MEP estimates.
  • Coordinates planning, permitting, utilities, etc.
  • Coordinates resources with Building Performance Solutions and other internal departments.
  • Manages MEP cost history and building system metrics that will be utilized by project teams.
  • Identifies and manages risk in project budget regarding scope, schedule, and market conditions.
  • Mentors other estimators on MEP systems and estimating processes to support the workload of this role.
  • Uses in-depth knowledge of MEP systems to assess project requirements and specifications and identifies risks or opportunities within the design.
  • Provides project-specific solutions tailored to the specific needs of the MEP systems within a project.

Estimate Development
  • Leads and/or develops MEP estimates, including quantities and initial pricing as required by the contract or project narratives and/or level of design.
  • Prepares and completes clarifications as appropriate for each budget update or bid.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with trade partners, suppliers and vendors to obtain accurate pricing.
  • Works closely with McCownGordon associates and trade partners to ensure all aspects of the project are covered. This may include coordinating with trades outside of MEP.
  • Works closely with the Lead Estimator, McCown Gordon's Building Performance Solutions (BPS) team and the design team to define undesigned items that need to be quantified or priced.
  • Establishes and maintains required estimate reports for review by the project team prior to submittal.
  • Incorporates MEP estimates into the overall project cost, ensuring alignment with the project's budget and timeline.
  • Collaborates with electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire protection trade partners to gather accurate MEP estimates and ensure all aspects of the project are covered.

Communication, Organization & Analysis
  • Analyzes project documents, identifies potential risks, and develops accurate cost estimates.
  • Effectively communicates with project teams, trade partners, and clients. This includes clearly conveying scopes of work, project requirements, and any potential issues.
  • Effectively develops and communicates scopes of work to the design team, trade partners and clients, ensuring all project documents are reviewed and understood.
  • Oversees the integration of MEP systems into the overall construction plan, ensuring coordination between different trades and disciplines.
  • Uses strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. This includes maintaining estimate reports, preparing clarifications, and attending project meetings.
  • Strong presentation skills to present budget findings to clients and AE teams on critical or complicated projects.
  • Works with/notifies McCownGordon's Commissioning team of project status and current design stage.

Risk Management
  • Identifies potential risks and design gaps related to MEP systems and communicates these to the project team.
  • Understands market trends, pricing and availability of labor and materials/equipment.
  • Assists the Building Performance Solutions team as they complete the MEP QAQC review and other design coordination items.
  • Identifies long lead time items and advises on purchase requirements.
  • Proactively manages the MEP procurement process.
  • Work with team to determine procurement process (trade partners and equipment if necessary) to ensure best value and bid coverage for the project.
  • Follows up weekly on critical procurement items.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (minimum requirements before going into job)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 7+ years' experience in Preconstruction, Estimating, or MEP.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Timberline Estimating, On-Screen Take Off, MS Project, Microsoft Office applications, and any other company standard software appropriate for the position.
  • Proven track record of proactive approach to issues/management.
  • Track record of establishing and maintaining a budget.
  • Demonstrated success in working effectively with trade partner market and A/E teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a leadership role on estimating projects from start to finish.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate, mentor, and lead associates.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position requires work in an office environment.
