Position Overview:
The Construction Manager leads the overall safety, construction quality, construction costs, and construction plans and schedules of all capital projects at the Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex towards best-in-class performance. This role reports to the Site Capital Projects Manager and supervises a department of 25-35 construction professionals - both Motiva and contract staff - consisting of construction supervisors, construction engineers, and construction coordinators.
Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the Safe execution of all site capital project construction activities.
- On-time and cost-effective delivery of project construction activities.
- Manage contractor change requests and hold contractors accountable for efficient execution.
- Development of site construction competencies and continuous improvement in the site construction processes.
- Provide direction of Construction Project Management teams to successfully achieve strategic and operational goals.
- Provide leadership with end-to-end visibility across all construction project management activities from concept to installation and operation.
- Ensure team priorities and activities align with and support business objectives and expectations.
- Actively coach and mentor direct reporting people leaders and senior-level individual contributors.
- Propose and execute enhancements to team processes and leadership practices.
- Lead the team to meet and exceed specific key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Identify and mitigate potential risks and issues that may impact project timelines and budgets.
Experience and Qualifications:Required Education and Experience:
- 20+ years of refining, manufacturing, or petrochemical experience in project construction or related field
- Experience supervising, leading, and developing technical professionals
- High school diploma or equivalent education
- Thorough understanding of project execution processes
- Proven track record of achieving tough targets and objectives
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or in a related field
- 20+ years of interaction/exposure to Stage-Gate Capital Project Processes
- 25+ years of project construction experience
Physical Requirements:
- Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)
