The Senior Director of Hematology & Urinalysis Systems and Reagent R&D for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for directing the Systems and Reagent Development functions to design and develop our next generation hematology & urinalysis diagnostic instruments. This group is a multi-disciplinary mix of systems, mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering and science associates. The Senior Director is responsible for building the resource capability to deliver products with excellence, managing the operations and delivery of the team, and applying Systems Engineering & Reagent Development best practices to drive efficiency, innovation, and quality.

This position is part of the Hematology & Urinalysis Business Unit located in Miami, FL. and will be on-site. At Beckman Coulter, our vision is to relentlessly reimagine healthcare, one diagnosis at a time.

You will be a part of the Core Lab Specialty Solutions R&D Team and report to the Vice President R&D responsible for the Core Lab Specialty Solutions product portfolio. If you thrive in a fast paced, innovative leadership role and want to work to build a world-class R&D organization-read on.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead new product development and for the next generation hematology and urinalysis systems. Accountable for on-time delivery of new products to support above market growth.
  • Lead a team of approximately 70 resources including Systems, Hardware Engineering, and Reagent Development, Reliability, and Verification & Validation functions.
  • Build & develop a highly skilled global, professional, engaged team with strong technical capabilities, creativity, and leadership to achieve organizational goals.
  • Plan the functional excellence strategy for Systems and Reagent new product development implementing new & improved processes that ensure efficiency and quality.
  • Establish a data-driven culture of accountability by incorporating Danaher Business System (DBS) tools into daily work and management.
  • Drive robust/reliable product design, verification and validation of initial and subsequent design changes making sure that all FDA/ISO/EN and other related requirements are consistently met.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative development partnerships with other companies, institutions, opinion leaders and key customers.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Knowledge: Accomplished R&D leader with a history of successfully delivering large scale R&D projects on time and within budget.
  • Skills: Leadership, critical thinking and data driven decision-making, exceptional communication skills, risk management skills with a demonstrated ability to lead large complex organizations
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field with 20+ years of experience or Masters/Doctoral degree with 18+ years of experience including 6+ years of progressively more responsible engineering management roles is required. Experience with companies in the life science, diagnostics, instrumentation, or reagents space. Demonstrated experience in complex systems development preferred.
  • Outstanding coaching, communication, and people management skills, enabling strong team performance, leading conflict resolution, and managing tradeoffs.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; capability to build strong relationships and collaboratively work with peers, subordinates, and management.
  • Ability to build strong teams, strategically deploy resources, and enable positive team culture.
  • Candidates must have a track record of successfully applying technologies to develop creative solutions.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to travel 10%
