Job Description Summary:
PayPal Inc. is seeking a talented Senior Product Counsel to join our Legal team. In this role, you will provide legal advice and guidance to our Product team on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters related to the development and launch of PayPal's Checkout products and services. You will be responsible for identifying legal and regulatory risks, advising on product design and strategy, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and guidance to our Product Management team on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters related to the development and launch of Checkout initiatives, including signup, onboarding, payment type selection, subscriptions, recurring payments, and receipts across mobile and web experiences.
  • Provide timely and business-focused legal advice on product design and strategy and proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Review product experiences and associated content and marketing to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
  • Develop appropriate terms, conditions, and disclosures for new product offerings.
  • Collaborate with other legal and compliance teams, and other cross-functional groups to support PayPal Checkout initiatives globally.
  • Monitor regulatory developments impacting our Checkout products and advise business and legal partners on their impact.
  • Provide training to Product Management teams on legal and regulatory matters related to PayPal Checkout products and services.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and admission to at least one state bar in current good standing.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience in-house or at a major law firm (with at least 3+ years at a mid-to-large size technology company).
  • Experience advising on legal and regulatory matters related to product development and launch. Consumer-facing product counseling experience is a major plus. FinTech or financial services product counseling also a plus.
  • Strong understanding of technology and payments industries, including applicable laws and regulations, including knowledge of regulations and industry guidelines applicable to ecommerce, Reg. E, CAN SPAM, TCPA, E-Sign, and UDAP/UDAAP, and other guidance coming out of federal and state agencies such as the CFPB and the FTC.
  • Familiarity with, and strong interest in e-commerce, PayPal, Venmo, Honey, mobile and alternative payments, emerging payments technology, and the payments industry.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and under pressure with diligence, organization, and minimal supervision, and provide practical, business-friendly advice to clients.
  • Strong analytical, strategic and project management skills; ability to drive issues to a quick resolution that factors in many non-legal variables, such as brand-risk, communications, government relations, tax, insurance, finance and other business units.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal and regulatory concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Comfortable with gray areas and interpreting and applying the law in unsettled contexts.

$99300 to $216040
