The James A. Clifton Digestive Health Center was established in 1985 as the first multidisciplinary subspeciality unit at University of Health Care and one of the first nationwide. It is the state's leader in diagnosing and treating patients with complex problems of the digestive system.
Job Summary: The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking 50% - 100% Staff Nurses to work for the Digestive Health Procedure Suite. We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Nurses to join our team. The ideal candidate(s) will apply nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness. This role involves coordinating the continuum of care across various settings and developing comprehensive patient care plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply nursing theory to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient responses to health and illness.
- Assess patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings.
- Develop patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions, prescribing interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Implement patient care plans according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Document and report interventions and patient/family responses.
- Collaborate and integrate contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plans.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
- Implement nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Follow universal precautions.
- Manage a procedure unit that sees 50 - 60 patients/day with 8 total procedure rooms.
Daily Duties: - Provide conscious and deep sedation and assist with monitored anesthesia.
- Assist with specimen collection and processing.
- Track supplies and equipment used in each procedure.
- Provide emergent care as needed within ACLS guidelines.
- Provide patient care in pre and post-procedure areas.

Percent of Time: 50% - 100% / 20 hours a week up to 40 hours a week.
Schedule: M-F, 8-10-hour shifts, variable start and end times. Late and on-call shifts required, self-scheduling is practiced here. One holiday on-call per year and one weekend call every 3 months.
Salary: $60,589 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate. Salary will be based on years of experience and percent effort.

Education - An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required
Required Qualifications - Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
- General computer skills are required
- Must be able to wear up to 25 lbs. in lead shielding for ERCP procedures.
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
Desired Qualifications - Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
- If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
