Overview
Supervises assigned staff in assistance in recovery of organs, machine preservation of kidneys, telepathology services, the placement of organs, and the operations at the Donor Care Center; participates in on-call responsibilities as the Administrator on Call (AOC) and/or Perfusion Resource
Compensation range for this position is $96,000 - $108,000 annually.
Responsibilities
The following essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Support Gift of Hope's mission, vision, and values; adhere to its policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position
- Supervise the activity and staff of surgical services and perfusion departments, including oversight of Donor Care Center operations
- Acts as a liaison between Gift of Hope and Donor Care Center for all center-specific needs
- Serve on Gift of Hope hospital-based Donor Care Center committees to ensure efficient practice and compliance with UNOS, Gift of Hope and Donor Care Center policies
- Supervise the scheduling, performance, and clinical practice of assigned staff
- Coordinate the development and training of clinical staff members via observation and mentoring, data collection, and monitoring of departmental quality initiatives
- Ensure the delivery and reinforcement of departmental training for assigned staff
- Conduct case debriefings with staff to identify best practices and opportunities for staff development
- Perform dissection and monitoring of donor kidneys for machine perfusion
- Assist the recovering surgeon in the surgical recovery of deceased donor organs for transplantation and research
- Communicate effectively with internal and external partners to facilitate the donation process
- Document required clinical information in a clear and concise manner and input perfusion-related information into DonorNet as required
- Package and label organs for transplantation or research
- Maintain the necessary equipment, supplies and laboratory space required for machine preservation of donor kidneys
- Maintain the necessary equipment and supplies for histological plating and staining of donor kidney specimens
- Perform histological plating and staining of donor kidney specimens
- Serve in on-call rotation as a Surgical Recovery Coordinator , Perfusion Coordinator, and Administrator on Call and/or Perfusion Resource
- Ensure donor organs are allocated according to OPTN/UNOS policy through direct supervision and chart review
- Participate in data collection, development and monitoring of departmental quality initiatives related to organ allocation and machine preservation of kidneys
- Coordinate and monitor organs for research following GOH research protocol
- Provide input and recommendations in the development, revision and training of policies and procedures
- Monitor and maintain the Organ Operations supply inventory in Itasca and the Donor Care Center
- Plan and facilitate department staff meetings, staff development days and internal case debriefings as assigned
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with hospitals, transplant centers and other related organizations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Education and Training Required The following identifies the minimum education and training required to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Associate degree in Applied Health & Science, research, or related field
- 2 years' OPO clinical experience
Experience and Skills Required The following indicates the minimum skills and experience required to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Trained in the dissection and monitoring of deceased donor kidneys and machine perfusion
- Ability to achieve and maintain competency in clinical and technical skills required to assist in the surgical recovery of organs for transplant
- Strong understanding of UNOS policies and state and federal regulations regarding organ donation
- Ability to lead, coach and develop staff
- Demonstrated competency in all aspects of the organ recovery process
- Ability to quickly and accurately respond to multiple complex requests
- Basic skills in Excel and Word
