Position Summary
The Surface Water Treatment Operator, while observing all safety regulations, assists the Senior Surface Water Treatment Operator in his duties. Performs operation activities of all surface water treatment plants; performs required daily operational laboratory tests and adjusts process equipment as necessary; collects distribution water samples for testing; performs dead end flushing; adjusts and repairs pressure regulating, pump control, and altitude valves; inspects and maintains and operates facilities to ensure compliance with TCEQ standards; reports malfunctions to Surface Water Operations Superintendent.
Specific Responsibilities
Monitor and maintain all surface water plants, and production equipment and facilities including pumps, motors, check valves, chlorinators, chemical pumps, and pressure vessels
Record all pertinent operational data, including daily logs, flow settings, unit inspections, chemical dosages and chemical residuals
Fill and/or replace all chemicals required in the treatment process
Schedule preventative maintenance on all treatment equipment and distribution equipment
Assists Chief Operator in project management activities such as pump, valve, and motor installs, changing out filter media, and others as required.
Conduct certain operational lab tests
Periodically test all emergency equipment
Ensure plant yards and production facilities are kept clean and grounds maintained
Maintain Company vehicle, including essential supplies and tools
Collect certain water samples (raw water, treated water, and construction)
Is available for shift work, standby, after hours work, weekends and holidays
Laboratory testing for a variety of constituents including but not limited to; alkalinity, disinfection by-products, PH, turbidity, chlorine dioxide, etc.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Basic knowledge of TWC's distribution system, surface water operations.
Required Education and Experience
Requirements include a high school/GED degree in order to qualify for certifications/licenses
Two years of progressively responsible related experience
A valid Texas Driver's License with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
'C' Surface Water Certificate is required
Ability to perform tasks safely and efficiently; must be able to adjust well to new methods and situations
Ability to work well with others in a team environment
Ability to effectively communicate when writing reports
Ability to interface with the public
Ability to effectively use HACH laboratory equipment including, but not limited to; 2100 N Turbidimeter, DR5000 Analyzer, HQ 30 PH Meter, Pocket colorimeter
