General Summary

This position is responsible for providing quantity take-offs and ongoing technical support to the estimating staff to ensure accurate and timely estimates.

Essential Job Accountabilities

Estimate and Engineering Takeoffs

  • Review plans and specifications with the estimating team to determine specific take-off needs to ensure requirements are met.
  • Develop job quantity take-offs- earthwork, grading, excavation, structure excavation/backfill to ensure accurate estimates and bids.
  • Review take-off data/summaries with estimating team.
  • Develop/ Modify Takeoff Standard Templates.
Technical Engineering/Support/Scheduling
  • Manage Estimate files, ensuring easy retrieval of information, transfer of information to project teams.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent practice/method of documentation(daily diary) and task tracking(to do list) for oneself and estimate related items.
  • Assist in coordinating the startup process in conformance with operational procedures, including but not limited to: project start-up checklist, project hand-off meeting, conforming HeavyBid estimates and creating job budgets, converting the proposal schedule into a project schedule, safety, quality, environmental, and site logistics.
  • Work competently with the estimating and project teams to sequence the project tasks and determine durations of tasks in preparing the long-term and short-term schedules(prebid type schedules).
  • Research Historical data and productivity analysis reports in order to compile summary reports for future estimates.
Utilize GPS Files / Models for Project Estimates
  • Utilize GPS Files for Agtek Models
  • Cooridinate with Construction Team and Survey Chief in the transition of Estimate model to Build model
  • Manage project files thru Trimble Business Center & Agtek.
  • 3D model development for use in estimating
  • Coordinate and perform Drone flights for estimate team use.
  • QC/QA of 3D models for estimates and project team.
Contract Management
  • Assist in complying with DBE requirements, perform good faith efforts and documentation, complete Legal Checklists (CUF's), and be on the lookout for fraud and violations.
  • Thoroughly understand the contract better than anyone else on the project team (including the owner) and identify/anticipate changes to the contract including possible reasons for changes and value engineering opportunities.
  • Assist estimating team with development and maintenance of subcontractor and material supplier vendor contact information.
Mentoring/Development
  • May supervise, direct, mentor, and motivate other engineers, interns, or office assistants to ensure estimating standards are met and work is competed on time.
  • Take ownership of your own development.
Safety/QC/Environmental
  • Participate in Weekly Safety Meetings and Inspections. (maybe Monthly)
  • Understand Construction Quality control requirements for projects at bid time.
  • Understand environmental requirements, inspections, and testing for projects at bid time.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.

Work Experience
  • 0 - 2 years construction estimating support or similar experience.
  • Construction experience preferred

Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc.), AutoCad, AGTEK Take-off, Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam Take-off, HCSS HeavyJob, PlanGrid, and Primavera Scheduling software.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawing and specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to discipline.
  • Ability to perform trigonometric calculation either manually or with a calculator.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others.
  • Thorough understating and ability to perform all items outlined in Project Engineering and Controls (CELP-SM-002)

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. At times will be working around large construction equipment, must be safety conscience.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive. Project sites may be spread out and require significant drive to perform essential functions of this job.
