Duties: The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) and Orphan Disease Center (ODC) are entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases. Our R&D organization has a translational infrastructure that includes: technology discovery, specialized immunology assays operating under GLP, a Vector Core/Manufacturing unit that conducts GMP comparable work, and a large non-clinical program for animal testing under GLP including large NHP and rodent vivaria.

Our Animal Models Core is looking for Veterinarian Technician (VT) for our rodent research team to ensure the humane care and treatment of laboratory animals.

As a VT you will support GTP's Core Director for rodent program by performing routine and specialized procedures associated with the veterinary care of laboratory animals. You will participate in both scheduled research and nonclinical projects, reviewing research and nonclinical study protocols, performing specialized experimental procedures, and ensuring that samples are delivered to the appropriate person(s) or diagnostic laboratory(ies) for GTP as it pertains to the study protocol. You will triage clinical cases, participates in clinical rounds on active cases under the directive of the clinical research veterinarian, and administers and documents the appropriate clinical therapies to animals undergoing directed veterinary treatments. You will help to maintain an inventory of veterinary supplies and equipment including controlled drugs. Also, you will ensure all animal activities comply with USDA, OLAW, GLP and AAALAC regulations/guidelines. You will assist with the monthly billing of all clinical and experimental procedures.

Employees in this position will participate in occupational safety and health program which requires tuberculin testing and potentially immunization. Weekend work, holiday work and overtime hours are a requirement of this position. May be designated as essential personnel during a storm/natural disaster. Responsibilities must be performed with minimal instruction and persons will be expected to perform duties as described independently.

Position is contingent on continued funding.

Qualifications: Associates Degree in Animal or Life Science with 3 to 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required
Veterinarian Technician certification preferred but not required
Must have experience animal handling and be dedicated to the humane care of lab animals.
Strongly prefer experience working in a regulated environment
Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping a must!
Must be able to work rotating weekends and holidays
