Position Title:Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of English
Unit Mission Statement:The Department of English is dedicated to promoting an understanding and appreciation of the ways in which men and women have represented their worlds, real or imagined, in literature. As a lively community of teaching scholars, we are committed to engaging our students in the richness and variety of English poetry, drama and prose fiction, from the canon of traditional English literature to marginalized, avant-garde and experimental literary works. Position Summary:The Department of English at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a non-tenure track, Visiting Teaching Faculty position in Creative Writing that will begin January 10, 2025. The appointment will be issued for a two-and-half-year period, concluding with the 2026-27 academic year.
We seek an individual with expertise in teaching multi-genre (poetry/prose) introductory courses; intermediate poetry workshops; and special topics workshops that can add to our growing and lively Creative Writing minor. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a 3-3 teaching load.
Applicants must hold an M.F.A. in creative writing or be ABD (including an M.A.) for the Ph.D. in creative writing or English with a creative writing emphasis at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous undergraduate teaching experience in creative writing; previous experience teaching first-year undergraduate writing. Ph.D. in hand, for those pursuing that degree.
